Bhakti Gandhi Valia is a self taught artist, based out of Bangalore, India. Her passion for her art derives from her imagination and observing the surrounding objects and phenomena. Her formal education is a Masters in Business Administration (Finance) and a few years of work experience in an alco-bev company.
She started her journey as an artist in 2016 while exploring paper in various forms, folds, textures and dimensions and started her company Paperworks by Bhakti. While working with paper she added a new form to her imagination in the field of textured and abstract art.
Her artwork is created with intuitive response, spontaneity and are highly personal. Her work is rooted in textures of curiosity & playfulness, developing from one layer to another. Finding & losing herself in the artwork, building memories. Each swathe of paint takes you into her personal journey of creation and self discovery. There is an internal logic to each piece of work, a set movements and leaps of imagination.
Her work is always emphasized, with nothing to distract from the beauty of her heavily textured pieces. Each piece has a distinct story to tell.
In the wise words of chef Marco Pierre White – “A person who works with their hands is a labourer, a person who works with their hands & brain is a craftsman, a person who works with their hands, brain & heart is an artist. “
She recently held her first solo exhibition at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore in September 2022.
